Our staff assists faculty members, students and other personnel
who are seeking external funding for projects in research, instruction,
or community service. We primarily assist with obtaining federal
and state grants, contracts and cooperative agreements as well as
corporate contracts. We occasionally also help faculty seek and
obtain various forms of nonfederal funding.
MISSION STATEMENT AND SERVICES
Identification of Funding Sources: The OGC helps faculty members
in finding the agencies that are likely to be interested in their
particular project. We maintain a database of faculty interests
and use it to notify faculty members of forthcoming opportunities
in their area(s) of interest. We coordinate closely with the University
Advancement Office, which typically handles the solicitation of
private gifts.
Proposal Preparation: Our staff assists with completing required
forms and reviews the proposal package to ensure that it meets agency
requirements. We route the proposal on campus to appropriate offices
for further approval review and signatures. (Please allow several
working days for proposal review and approval for non-electronic
submissions, and at least ten days for e-proposals submissions.)
Our office also duplicates, packages, and mails the proposal packet.
Budget Development: We assist faculty in developing realistic
budgets for their projects. In addition, we review the proposed
budget for compliance with University and agency requirements and
assist in negotiating budget revisions.
Proposal Critique: With sufficient lead time, we provide critiques
of concept papers and draft proposals prior to submission. Such
assists enables proposers to present their ideas clearly and in
accordance with sponsor guidelines.
Agency Compliance: We assist faculty in meeting sponsor requirements
both during proposal preparation and after a grant is awarded. We
can provide information on the requirements for human subjects,
animal subjects, patents, conflict of interest, and other issues.
Our office provides the staff support to compliance committees.
Intramural Funding: Our office coordinates various small grants
funded by the campus or by the CSU, as does the Faculty Development
Center. Though modest in scope, these funds for research, travel
and instruction often provide seed money which can assist in seeking
acquiring external funding.
Other Services: The OGC is eager to work with faculty members and
others who use our service to facilitate support of their research,
scholarly, and creative activities. Please visit or call us if you
have any questions about obtaining the gamut of external available
funds.
